: : A new book by the former CIA station chief in Afghanistan, Robert L. Grenier, “88 Days to Kandahar: A CIA Diary,” basically says we did everything wrong there, and the only hope for the future is a permanent US military presence in the country (and that means forever).

: Didn't we already know is was all a mistake from the beginning? Didn't we already know we are now in a hopeless situation? The invasion served no purpose except to help keep all the "intelligence" agents from being fired and keep Bush from being impeached. It created a great recruiting tool for extremists.

He says that during the so-called "Obama Surge" we had 150,000 troops in Afghanistan and we were spending over a billion dollars a year there. He says it was all pointless and there is "no chance" the Taliban is going to give up. He says they will just keep on with their hit and run attacks until the American public gets bored with it and stops paying for it. Then the Taliban will take over again and it will be as if the longest war in US history never happened (except for the US soldiers who were killed or left wounded).
