Stilled Image
by John Sibley Williams

in steady rows
the chairs the woman

must straddle as he
slipknots the light

through curtain & lens
& manipulates

the impression color
has on the viewer

how a face can be
made to hurt less

or more without her
assent how the world

for a moment is captured
in the deep swell of her pupil

telling her whole story whatever
part of her story he chooses

to accentuate today the chair
wears her arm beautifully

a slight magnesium burst
& the subject // object
