: To start looking for a literary agent, I did what I suppose most writers do - I Googled "Literary Agent." I got 2.2 million hits!!! That's no help. How do I begin to find an agent?

This forum seems to lie quiet for a few weeks and then all of a sudden it gets busy. Are you people getting some kind of notice when a new message comes in?

Anyhow, to answer your question, I'd say you have to begin at the beginning. I got my first agent through a friend of a friend. Others have met agents at writer's conferences. But most writers just go through the process of sending out query letters to agents. That can be VERY frustrating because many agents either send back a form letter or they don't reply at all. Maybe the hardest part is psychological. Try not to look at rejections as rejecting you or your writing. The agent may just not be looking for your type of story.
