: From what I've read, self-publishing and e-publishing still has a stigma attached. Even POD has a stigma and I don't know why. It makes sense to only print one book at a time when it's needed. Saves paper. But, until the biggie publishers jump on the POD or electronic format, publishing will stay as it currently is. It's sad, but it seems that unless you get with a decent publisher who preprints a good-sized first run, and pays an advance, you won't be considered a 'real' author. Just my opinion as I see it.
Very good points. There is a stigma to self publishing, and even POD, but maybe the more important issue is customer access to your book. The bookstore chains state flat out they won't put self-published books on their shelves. Therefore, one of the main reasons to get a publisher is to simply get into the bookstores.
