: Here is my analysis. The reason Trump is winning is NOT because the Republican party has gone crazy; it is because many Americans are caught up in the polarization that has become the norm in 21st century America. Nobody seems to be noticing that the Trump voters are NOT Republicans. They are people who have never voted before (at many of the polling places, they are running out of the forms used to sign up new voters). In other words, they are people who turned out specifically to vote for Trump. They like his "against" rhetoric - against the establishment, against politicians against anybody not white. Yes, they are racists, but not in the traditional anti-black sense - they dislike anybody who is not like them.
Paradoxically, even though they are voting Republican, the reason the Trump voters hate politicians is because of the shut-it-down legislation-blocking policies of the House and Senate Republican members of Congress. Because of that Republican vote-blocking approach, these voters see Washington politicians as do nothing, self-aggrandizing jerks who only care about one thing - getting reelected. And they are right!
